SOLD - WW2 1940 MATCHLESS G3WO

£8,000.00

This original WD Matchless G3WO was supplied to the War Office under contract C6094 dated 24th June 1940.  They were delivered at 180 per week from 1st June 1940 and therefore from the frame number of the bike we are able to tell that it was manufactured in June 1940.

The bike comes with a current V5C, registration 873 YUC and is registered as a Historic Vehicle and is therefore free road tax and MOT exempt.  The V5C records that it is declared manufactured in 1940 and that the number is non-transferable.

We know that this bike was fully restored about 20 years ago and has been very well cared for by the previous owner.  It retains many of its original period features including Bowden brass combination levers, WD speedometer, eight inch headlight, T position light switch and correct ammeter. Given that it was manufactured in 1940 it would have left the factory fitted with a “panel tank”, however, this has been replaced at some time with the non-panel tank version. It is also fitted with a service replacement engine which will most likely have been exchanged during the overhaul undertaken by the REME whist still in the ownership of the War Department.

The bike starts very easily and is one of the nicest WD bikes to ride that we have owned. The speedometer is showing a current mileage of 849.
