Buy a WD motorcycle now and take part in the 80th Anniversary celebrations of D Day in June 2024.
This original WD motorcycle was supplied to the War Office under contract S.1050 dated 1st October 1942. There were 9,000 motorcycles supplied under this contract and they were delivered to the British Army but with some going to the RAF. After the war it was retained by the British Army and was eventually sold off by the MOD at auction on 13th July 1959.The bike comes with a current V5C, registration LAS 616 and is registered as a historic vehicle and is therefore free road tax and MOT exempt. The number is non-transferable.
The bike was in the ownership of the previous custodian for the last 30 years and has been used and maintained on a regular basis and was last ridden at the AJS & Matchless Owners Club Jampot Rally on 19/20th August 2023, where it ran faultlessly. It also retains badges on the petrol tank confirming that it took part in the 70th and 75th anniversaries of D Day in Normandy.
The bike has retained many of its War time features including original WD speedometer, T position lighting switch, canvas handlebar grips and rear carrier and pannier racks. The pannier bags are original but one of the leather corners is missing and needs to be replaced. A domed headlight glass has been fitted to ensure a better light when ridden in the dark. The ammeter and dip switch are post war replacements.
