Matchless 1942 WD G3L Project

Matchless 1942 WD G3L Project

£4,000.00

This WD Matchless G3L was supplied to the War Office under contract C11102 with a demand date of 5th July 1941 and a contract dated of 11th April 1942.  .The motorcycles in this contract were delivered to Chilwell and Tewkesbury, apart from these contract details we have no further history of this bike.

We have applied to the DVLA for an age related registration number and are waiting for a number to be allocated. It will be registered as a Historic Vehicle and will therefore be free road tax and MOT exempt.

The bike is being sold for full restoration and although the engine does turn over on the kick starter no attempt has been made to start it. The engine number is stamped on a contract plate and therefore we believe it is a Service Replacement unit, probably replaced by the REME.As will be seen from the photographs the bike is very largely complete and the tin wear seems to be in reasonable order. There is no headlamp of rear light fitted, horn, battery or wiring but there is a dynamo. There is also no rear carrier or pannier frames fitted and the rear stand has been badly repaired at some time.
